Pilkington Prize 2015
It was always going to be tricky, making a single image specifically for a competition.
I teach English for a living and every day on the way to school, I drive over a small bridge that in turn crosses a trout stream.
The sign says, 'Private: No Fishing'. I wanted to explore, but I couldn't. So, wearing my brother's size 9 waders, I made this photograph.
It didn't win the competition; it didn't even make the top fifty. Am surprised? No. Disappointed? No. For to be honest, the single image is not significant, what was important was the adventure.
Thank you to Stuart Pilkington for launching his eponymous prize.
You can see the top fifty images here.
Vicky Slater didn't win, but there is something very evocative (and provocative) in her entry. At the moment, I think it is my favourite.
